August 13: Malpora encounter ended Friday morning with the killing of one Lashkar militant during the gunfight. The encounter started on Thursday afternoon which resulted in the injuries of two security forces personnel and two civilians also.On Thursday afternoon, two militants had attacked the BSF Convoy which soon turned into a massive gunfight which lasted for more than 16 hours with the killing of one Lashkar-e-Toiba Pakistan commander identified as Usman by the security personnel.‘”The militants were planning a massive attack ahead of Independence day as a huge amount of ammunition was recovered from the militants. AK-47, RPG, Magazines were recovered, said IGP Kashmir”. A major tragedy has been averted ahead of Independence day,IGP Vijay Kumar has added.District Police Kulgam tweeted that ,’” evacuated 22 civilians including 12 shopkeepers, 06 females (one old aged lady patient) & 04 nonlocal laborers stranded in the encounter area at Malpora. All the people were evacuated & conveyed safely to their destinations.” One militant got trapped inside a building in south Kashmir’s Kulgam and was killed on August 13.Both side firing continued throughout the night and in the morning one militant was killed which ended the night long gunfight.The Police has said that,’’ The operation has ended and the traffic will resume on Srinagar-Jammu Highway which was halted due to the massive gunfight.’In the morning IGP Kashmir and GoC Victor Forces reached the encounter site and gave further directions to the field officers.The body of the militant was recovered in the morning and the traffic resumed on the National Highway.IGP Kashmir has confirmed that one militant escaped during the night hours while another was trapped and later got killed.Later IGP Kashmir confirmed the identity of the killed militant. He said,“The militant identified was an associate of top JeM Commander Adnan alias Lamboo who was recently killed in an encounter in Kulgam during last month.”
