Youth of j & k have been struggling for jobs for the last 7-8 years. Engineers recruitment is negligible in j&k but our administration wants to recruit retired staff over the newly young mind engineers, wrote Ayush kumar.The engineering staff working under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to review the decision regarding employing retired engineers, terming the same as injustice with them.Association’s president Shahnawaz Hussain and Sahil Abrol said 750 engineers are working on contractual basis and instead of utilizing their services in various fields, “unnecessarily” services of retired employees are being sought to be utilized.“The Government must give new officials to assume key positions which have been occupied by retired officers. That is the way to remove deadwood and rejuvenate administration”, Abrol added.This move, according to the observers, doesn’t go well with the state’s rising graph of unemployment, with a latest survey revealing that the state has more than 16.2% of total unemployed youth registered.Meanwhile, All India Confederation of SC ST OBC Organisations also opposed the Government’s move of re-employing retired engineers in the Rural Development Department on contractual basis.RK Kalsotra, State President Confederation, while talking to said that the Government’s move to recruit retired engineers to fill the shortage in Panchayat, Rural Development Department on contractual basis is gross injustice towards the unemployed.Pertinently it is to mention there are more than 70000 educated unemployed engineers in the UT who are in a state of distress with no employment opportunities.(CNS)
