Baramulla, 12 –Feb; Despite Directions from the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to take necessary Steps against the Stray dogs, Animal Husbandry Department Baramulla fails to deliver due to unavailability of funds.Few Days Back, local residents of Gund Abrahim locality of Singhpora area of Pattan in Baramulla district on Sunday held a protest and blocked Baramulla-Srinagar National highway after a 12-year-old boy was mauled to death to death by stray dogs in Singhpora Pattan.While taking note of the incident and media coverage by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla directed Animal Husbandry Department Baramulla to take necessary Steps with regard to Control the Population of dogs and to get rid from Stray Dogs.District Animal Husbandry Officer Baramulla ,Dr Balbir told that this department has no Budget to tackle with these dogs. “The Process to Control Population of dogs is the Combination of two Departments Including Municipal Committee Concern who will Catch these dogs. Due to lack of funds in my department matter will be again taken up with concerned DC, Singh added.Meanwhile, Locals of Singhpora and its adjacent areas have once again requested Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to take immediate steps to Control Stray Dogs in the interest of Public.Pertinently, as per a report by the department of Community Medicines, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, around 58,869 persons were bitten by the dogs in the last ten years in Kashmir. In last five years, 30,000 dog bite cases have been reported in Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS) alone. While topping the list in 2020 more than 2,800 cases of dog bite were reported in Srinagar only. (CNS)
