Kulgam, 11-Mar;A circular was issued by Director health Kashmir on 22nd Jan in accordance to which all Chief Medical Officers and Medical Superintends were supposed to nominate One Nodal Officer for district hospitals who on random daily basis was to collect photocopies of at least 1% of prescriptions prescribed by Doctors in OPD’s, with the purpose to scrutinise whether drugs generic in nature and preferentially, which are available in hospital are written on prescription, whether unnecessary diagnostic tests are written or patients are referred to private clinics or drugs are prescribed in contravention of provisions of any act or regulation The circular was issued to stop malpractices by doctors so that people at maximum can get benefits but to the dismay of general public the circular issued by the directorate is been observed in breach by CMO Kulgam and Medical Superintendent Kulgam seems to be least caring about these circulars as till date they did not bother to nominate any Nodal office for above purpose hence giving an impression that they don’t care about any order, circular or regulation and they do things on their own way no matter what in a manner which can be said to be no less dictatorial.At District Hospital Kulgam under the leadership of Medical Superintendent the practice of writing Brand name drug, proprietary drug is at rampant patients for small causes are referred to private nursing home by doctors, doctors often write the drugs on prescription which carry high price tag so that these doctors can get commission from medicine brands,The surgery which could have been done easily at hospital is been done by doctors at private nursing homes on high paymentAnd the common man easily gets trapped and left with no other choice but to follow as been told.Meanwhile, CMO Kulgam Dr Rafiq told CNS that he has directed the concerned MS to implement the said circular in the hospital.However, Pharmacists and patients alleged that nothing has been done in practical as MS and doctors are hand in glove with the brand companies and keep on prescribing their medicines only.(CNS)
