Srinagar, 02-May; Markets across Kashmir including Srinagar were abuzz with activities as people came out in large numbers to shop for Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated tomorrow on the conclusion of the month of Ramzan. For the past few days shoppers in large numbers are thronging the markets for shopping purposes. Despite being Sunday market yesterday across the city witnessed an immense rush and the business hub Lal Chowk was swarmed by shoppers.Though it was Monday, massive traffic movement was witnessed along busy routes of Lal Chowk, Dalgate, Nowhatta and many other places while traffic police faced a tough time trying to regulate the traffic movement.Where as the festive fever grips Kashmir, people in huge numbers were seen buying different commodities on Monday ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr on Tuesday..The scene at the busy city center Lal Chowk is quite different these days where heavy pedestrian and traffic movement has started picking.People in large numbers could be seen buying garments, kids wear, hosiery items, eatables and other essential commodities from the shops. Children could be seen accompanying their parents for buying clothes, toys etc. Pertinently, on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr many shopping outlets, particularly the ones dealing with clothing and kids wear, have started offering discounts on purchases. Meanwhile, due to the immense rush traffic police is having a tough time in regulating the smooth flow of vehicular traffic during past many days. The large number of vehicles and slow traffic movement is indeed resulting in traffic mess.”It took me nearly two hours to reach Lal Chowk from Nowhatta Chowk. There was prolonged traffic chaos along the route. Traffic police must deploy more manpower to regulate the traffic,” Riyaz, a commuter said.A senior official at City traffic police department revealed that traffic diversions were likely to be put into place to ensure hassle free traffic movement.”We are planning traffic diversions on eve of eid so that traffic movement is subsided along busy routes of the city. Moreover, we have deployed additional manpower to check over traffic mess across city,” an official revealed.(CNS)
