Fresh snowfall in higher reaches of J-K, plains lashed by rains Gurez , karnah,Mughal road closed for vehicular movement

Srinagar,20-Oct: Many areas in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday received fresh snowfall, while the plains in the valley were lashed by rains. Light to moderate snowfall occurred in many areas in the higher reaches, including at the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg. Fresh snowfall was also reported in Gurez, and Zojilla Pass – on the Srinagar-Leh highway.The plain areas of the Valley were being lashed by rains when the last reports came in.The Zabarwan Hills in Srinagar district also received light snowfall.Meanwhile, the fresh snowfall led to the closure of several roads including Sadhna Top, connecting the border town of Tangdhar and other far-flung and remote areas, Kupwara and Gurez.Mughal Road, connecting Shopian with twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri, was also closed due to heavy snowfall.An official at the Meteorological Department said that as per the forecast, the higher reaches witnessed moderate snowfall from Wednesday late night and continued till Thursday morning.”We are expecting improvement in prevailing weather conditions from tomorrow onward while there is no forecast of any major snowfall for the next one week to 10 days in J&K and Ladakh,” he said.
