GDC Ganderbal hosts seminar on cultural legacy of Sheikh Noor ud Din Wali (R.A)

SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 06: Department of Kashmiri, Government Degree College (GDC) Ganderbal organised one day seminar on ‘Alamdar, (The founder of our entire cultural heritage), Sheikh Noor ud Din Wali (R.A)’ in College Auditorium, featuring a series of enlightening discussions and presentations.The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by student Shabir Ahmad Lone, followed by the recitation of Shaikh Shurukhs by Kamran Nazir. Dr. Nusrat Iqbal, Head of the Department of Kashmiri, delivered an opening address emphasizing the multidimensional nature of Shaikh ul Aalam. She highlighted his exceptional contributions as a poet, preacher, religious scholar and intellectual, noting that his teachings are vital for both personal and communal upliftment.The principal of the college, Prof. Fouzia Fatima, warmly welcomed the guests and spoke on the importance of understanding Shaikh ul Aalam’s teachings. She stressed the need to educate the new generation about his contributions to Kashmiri society and beyond, advocating for his moral teachings as foundational for harmonious living.Noted Kashmiri writer and expert interpreter of Sheikhul Alam’s wisdom, board member of the J&K Wakf Board, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Haleem, also addressed the audience, reflecting on Kashmir’s rich literary heritage and the significance of Shaikh ul Aalam’s poetry. He noted that the Shurukhs serve not only as an emotional touchstone but also as a means to understand our cultural identity.Three students from the college Bisma Mehraj, Samir Ahmad Khan and Rafia Qayoom presented insightful papers on the life and teachings of Shaikh ul Aalam (R.A). The seminar included an engaging question-and-answer session that encouraged dialogue about his legacy.This seminar served as a valuable reminder of the profound influence of Shaikh Noor ud Din Wali (R.A) on both the spiritual and cultural landscape of Kashmir.
