September 11: The dead body of a terrorist was recovered last night by security forces at Sukhnag Nala who was injured during the encounter on 07 September 2020 at Kawoosa Budgam. The said terrorist after receiving bullet injuries had jumped into Sukhnag Nala in order to escape from the encounter site.

On September 7, acting on specific information about the presence of terrorists in Kawoosa area of Budgam, police and security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the said area. During the search operation the terrorist fired upon the search party which was retaliated. However, after a brief gunfight, one terrorist who had received bullet injury escaped from the spot and jumped into Sukhnag Nala.

Following the escape, a search operation was launched by Budgam Police 02 RR and 44 CRPF in the said area. The services of Marine Commandos and river police were also pressed into service and the search operation continued for four days. The joint search team were successful in recovering the dead body of a terrorist during the intervening night of 10/11 September from Sukhnaag Nallah Kawoosa. One hand grenade, 01 Pistol, 01 AK magazine, AK rounds, 02 mobile phones, a knife and other materials were also recovered. The terrorist has been identified as Aqib Lone from Aglar, Shopian affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT.

All the recovered incriminating materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe his complicity in other terror crimes.

Keeping in view the prevailing pandemic due to COVID-19 and to ensure the safety of people from inherent risk of contracting the infection, the dead body of the killed terrorist shall be sent to Baramulla for burial purposes after completion of all medico-legal formalities. The nearest family members of the killed terrorist shall be allowed to participate in the last rites at Baramulla.

In this connection, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered investigation has been initiated.
