My Town My Pride’: Urban public outreach programme takes off with multifarious activities in Rajouri district Sarita Chauhan visits Rajouri; inspects public service delivery system, visits Govt assets

RAJOURI, OCTOBER, 19: The ambitious urban outreach programme ‘My Town My Pride’ commenced with great fervour here across all the ULBs of the Rajouri district.
As part of “My Town My Pride”, Commissioner Secretary, Forest, Environment and Ecology department, Sarita Chauhan visited Rajouri and participated in the event held in connection with programme.
The Visiting Officer held an interactive session with the President, Vice President and Councillors of Municipal Council Rajouri and took stock of their issues and concerns.
During the interaction, President, Vice President and Councillors put forward a number of issues for redressal.
The issues which were discussed included office buildings for each ward councilors, direct transfer of funds, treatment of sewerage on scientific basis, cancellation of illegal allotments, funds for development of new revenue resources for MC Rajouri, transfer of land for construction of Solid Waste Management plant, provision of oxygen plant for GMC Rajouri, replacement of obsolete water pipes, completion of circular road and parking facilities.
The visiting officers assured all the participants that all their genuine issues and demands shall be redressed in a phased manner. Some of the issues were resolved on the spot.
The visiting officer also interacted with the prominent citizens of MC Rajouri and discussed a number of issues with them.
She said that ‘My Town My Pride’ has been launched by the LG administration to further empower and strengthen the framework of the Urban Local Bodies and the 2-day programme will include closer review of their functioning besides taking up mobilisation of funds towards developmental activities in addition to the public outreach.
The visiting officer asked the representatives of the Municipal Council to formulate the plans strictly as per the developmental needs of their areas in order to better the quality of life for the urban population. She directed the Divisional Officer PCB to carry out awareness activities regarding the scientific disposal of polythene and other solid wastes.
The frontline Government functionaries of different departments of the district including Urban Development, PWD, Power, Jal Shakti, Health, Labour, Education, Social Welfare, Handlooms, Handicrafts, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep, Agriculture, Banks and others established their stalls and educated the public about their schemes and programmes.
Later, the visiting officer inspected the public service delivery system including issuance of revenue documents, scholarship, Ayushman cards, pension for different categories, water and power connections and other government services being provided to the general public.
She distributed domicile certificates and labour cards among the beneficiaries besides handing over a cheque amounting Rs.2.80 lakh to a driver named Abdul Hameed as injury compensation under Compensation Act.
Meanwhile, the visiting officer paid a visit to a number of government assets like Sports Stadium kheora and other institutions and took stock of the facilities being provided there. Besides, she also inspected the progress on a number of developmental works like double lane Abdullah bridge and others being executed by different departments.
She also inaugurated a community toilet complex at GDC Kheora constructed by Urban Local body Rajouri.
Similarly Vikas Sharma; Director Geology and Mining visited Municipal Committee Sunderbani, Rajesh Kumar Shravan visited MC Nowshera, Pritam Attri, Member JK SSB visited Kalakote and Babu Ram, Additional Secretary, Agriculture Production Department visited Thanamandi and conducted first day proceedings of the 2-day ‘My Town My Pride’ programme there.
