The NSS unit of Govt. College of Engineering & Technology, Jammu today on 2nd Oct. 2021 organized a cleanliness drive with the theme “Clean your Surrounding” to celebrate 152nd birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav- Celebration of India’s 75 years of Independence. The event was held under the patronage of college Principal Dr. Sameru Sharma. She said that on this day Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an ambitious cleanliness programme – The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan with an aim to fulfill the dream of Clean India as envisaged by Mahatma Gandhi. Indians gained freedom under the leadership of Gandhiji, but his dream of a clean India is still unfulfilled. Mahatma Gandhi said “Sanitation is more important than independence”. Many participants took part in the drive and uploaded their pictures while doing cleanliness around their surroundings. The event was organized by NSS volunteers Mandeep Singh, Sakshi Bhat, Mohd. Sami and Jaanvi Sharma under the guidance of NSS Programme officer Dr. Raman Gupta. He said that Gandhi Ji made cleanliness and sanitation an integral part of the Gandhian way of living. His dream was total sanitation for all as cleanliness is most important for physical well-being and a healthy environment. The principal of the college congratulated all the volunteers for participating and organizing the event. All the participants will be awarded with e-certificates.
