Jammu,22-Apr; Two militants believed to be fidayeen attackers were killed by security forces in an encounter near an Army camp on the outskirts of Jammu on Friday morning. The encounter comes two days ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to Samba. The encounter started after security forces launched a pre-dawn operation at the Sunjwan cantonment area in Jammu city. The police said they had information that militants were planning an attack in the city. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), however, said militants targeted a bus carrying its personnel and an Assistant Sub Inspector was killed.A CISF official said militants attacked a bus carrying 15 personnel in the morning. “The CISF retaliated effectively and forced the militants to flee. One CISF officer was killed and two others injured in action,” he said.”Two militants have been killed in the Sunjwan encounter. Militants holed up at Sunjwan were planning a major attack. The aim was to inflict maximum casualties on security forces,” Jammu and Kashmir police Chief Dilbag Singh. “We cordoned off the area during the night after we received an input that militants are hiding here and planning some action. In the morning, there was firing on the cordon, in which one security forces personnel was killed and four others are injured. ” said Mukesh Singh, additional director general of police in Jammu.Officials have identified personnel who was killed as ASI S P Patel of CISF while some of the injured as police Head Constable Balraj Singh of Kathua, SPO Sahil Sharma of Akhnoor, CISF’s Parmod Patra of Odisha and Amir Soran of Assam.Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure besides suspending the mobile internet services, local authorities have suspended classes in all private and government schools in the vicinity and adjoining areas. On National Panchayati Raj Day on April 24, PM Modi is scheduled to visit Pali village, 17 km from Jammu, to address a gathering. This will be PM Modi’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir other than the borders since the abrogation of the special status of the erstwhile state and its bifurcation in August 2019. He had celebrated Diwali with Army jawans on October 27, 2019 in Rajouri and on November 3, 2021 in Nowshera sector in Jammu division.(CNS)
