Srinagar,28-Apr; Scores of Anganwadi workers and helpers on Thursday requested authorities to release their pending wages of last seven months. The working President of AWWs & Helpers JK and CITU Leader Hanifa Mir said that although a separate department was carved out but the motive has not been fulfilled with the Anganwadi workers being forced to come on streets and protest for release of their meagre honorarium. They said that they are put to work as and when the government needs some data but when it comes to pay them the salary the government draws a big blob.“The previous administrations had failed to address our concerns and we expected the current LG administration to do so. “But that is yet to happen. We should be paid at least in accordance with the basic salaries. No government has ever treated us fairly,” Mir said. Many workers and helpers besides supervisors said that higher ups have recently asked them not to take up their issues with high ranking officials.”With no reason, we have been denied wages. We have been approaching from one office to another but to no avail”, one of the aggrieved Anganwadi workers said.“Despite bringing the issues in notice of higher ups many times nothing is being done on ground. We once again request concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest so that we won’t suffer any more,” they said.(CNS)
