Srinagar, 15-Mar; A local militant affiliated with Lashkar-i-Toiba was killed on Tuesday in an encounter with security forces in Charsoo area of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.As per the official sources, the LeT militant killed in the encounter has been identified as Owais Raja from Subhanpora Bijbhera. He was missing since last three months.Earlier, a joint team of security forces, after receiving information about the presence of militants, launched a search operation in the area.He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter.Meanwhile,in a statement issued police said that As per records, the killed militant was a categorized militantof proscribed outfit JeM. “He was a part of group involved in several crime cases including attack on Police/SF and civilian atrocities. IGP Kashmir termed this operation very important as it is situated very close to NHW and threat was imminent”,it read.Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK-56 rifle, 03 AK Magazines and 80 AK rounds were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.(CNS)
