Srinagar,11-Feb; The sagging HT lines and dilapidated electric poles in Habba Kadal area of old city in Srinagar are posing a major threat to the lives and the property of people. The residents of the area alleged that they are living under constant fear due to low lying electric wires in their areas and decaying electric poles.“Ironically, PDD department claims that electricity reaches to all but as a consumers we have to pay for electric wires and other related things. The electric lines touch roofs of houses posing risk to life and property. Due to low-lying overhead transmission lines, we are not able to venture out of our own houses. There have been many incidents of people getting injured after coming in contact with these power lines here,” said a local from Babapora Habba Kadal.“There are frequent short circuits and power failures in the area because the HT line is passing close to our houses. Whenever there is a short circuit it sounds like a crash and the inmates feel threatened and run out of their houses,” said another local. They said that department is claiming to have spend crores for repair, maintenances and augmentation purposes but in reality it is only on papers whereas ground situation is grim. “The condition of High Tension (HT) transmission lines and Low Tension (LT) lines is going from bad to worse with each passing day.”Meanwhile, locals urged the higher authorities to personally look into the matter and install new poles and wires in the area.(CNS)
