Srinagar,26-Apr: Expressing serious concern over serious power crises in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Kisan Tehreek held protest demonstrations in many parts of the valley including Anantnag, Kulgam ,Budgam, Ganderbal etc. While addressing a protest demonstration in Anantnag, General Secretary Jammu & Kashmir Kisan Tehreek Ghulam Nabi Malik said that the unannounced power outages are causing immense hardships to people of the region. While urban areas are witnessing power cuts up to 9 hours, many villages have been reeling under almost sheer darkness for several months. The precarious power situation is in marked contrast to the Lieutenant Governor’s recent announcement that the metered areas would receive seamless electricity round the clock. Unfortunately, despite having huge potential to generate copious amounts of electricity, Jammu and Kashmir has to face the worst power crises often. Meanwhile addressing protest demonstration in Kulgam, Kisan leader Zahoor Ahmad Rather said that the situation runs contrary to the claims made by the administration about availability of 24×7 power supply in metered areas,” he said adding: “Government takes huge amount from the consumers but when it comes to providing round the clock power supply, it is abdicating responsibilities leaving the consumers high and dry especially in the sacred month of Ramzan during Sehri and Iftar times. The precarious electric supply has affected the lift irrigation schemes in many parts of the valley due to which Kisans are unable to start their paddy cultivation.(CNS)
