NHPC alerts Reasi residents as water level swells in Chenab

    REASI:NHPC spokesman here said that the common people have been informed that the water level of “Chenab” river is constantly increasing due to weather changes (summer and monsoon) and in the coming days, due to the high flow of water from the onset of the monsoon, the river water level in the upstream and downstream areas of the dam can increase or decrease at any point of time during the month of June to October.The increasing water level is likely to cause unexpected high waves of water in the river, he said.All general public and local residents have been requested to be cautious and remain careful and not to go along the river Chenab and also keep the cattle away from the banks of the river and do not try to cross the river from any unprotected places or mediums, he said.The decision has been taken to protect human lives and property.The NHPC Salal Power Station Management has also requested to be vigilant and safe while paying special attention to the sound of “sirens” being played as a warning before leaving the water from the Dam and also requested to follow the instructions written on the “Warning” board installed at various places, he added.Pertinent to mention here that if there is any loss of life or property in this context, then NHPC authorities will not be held responsible for the same, they added.
