Srinagar, 27-Jan; The encroachment of road by street vendors on bypass road at Pantha Chowk is causing huge inconvenience to pedestrians and is hampering the vehicular movement.Reports reaching to said that it has become routine for street vendors to encroach the road along Flyover on Bypass Pantha chowk.Commuters said the illegal parking in the roadside and occupation of these vendors are the main reasons of traffic jam on the route.They said they have several times appealed the authorities to free the road from occupation but they (Authorities) never paid any heed to their requests.“’It is a herculean task for the government to remove the different vendors from the pavements to ensure smooth movement pedestrians and traffic as well. The problem is not only this route, but street vendors have occupied space in every district of Kashmir division, said one of the commuter.Another commuter accused authorities of leaving blue-eyed vendors from any action.He said that the removal of street vendors is mere an eye wash as authorities are not serious about the plan. “Despite people facing hardships and congestion on the streets of the city, authorities are not sticking to their plan of removing the vendors. On one day, the vendors are removed but next day they again occupy their spaces. It seems there is something fishy about the issue and authorities are hand in glove in this,” he saidThe vendors said that they are aware about the problems that pedestrians face but, “we have no other option. We know we are doing business on public place illegally, but this is the only way for income through which we are feeding our families.”(CNS)
