11-Apr; Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the country’s armed forces are capable enough to counter every situation apart from their duties at the border.He said, the Indian armed forces are the best example in the world for their commitment and discipline. Singh was addressing the ex-servicemen of Armed Forces in the Kendriya Sainik Board meeting held in New Delhi today. The Minister lauded the ex-servicemen’s selfless effort to serve the society during COVID pandemic. He said, these ex- soldiers are always ready to contribute in fighting any calamity in the country. Singh stressed that ex-servicemen are national assets and the country prouds on them. The Defence Minister informed that some states have taken new initiatives to create new jobs for ex-servicemen, although a lot more needs to be done in this. He said that about 60,000 soldiers are added every year to the existing strength of 34 lakh Ex-Servicemen. Therefore, the government has a great responsibility to take care of these ex-servicemen and their families. The Minister said that sainik welfare and welfare schemes are being administered by state and district level Sainik Welfare Boards. Presently, 34 Rajya Sainik and 409 District Sainik Offices are in the country. The meeting was conducted to discuss ex-servicemen’s welfare issues.
