Srinagar, August 16: The 15th August celebrations passed off peacefully across Kashmir region on Sunday with zero violence reported from anywhere in the region.The main function was held at Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket ground in Srinagar where Lt-Governor Manoj Sinha hoisted and unfurled tricolor, inspected the parade and took the ceremonial salute.At historic Hari Parbat, the 100-feet tricolor was unfurled by the LG-led administration.The authorities had placed elaborate security arrangements across the Valley to ensure peaceful celebrations.”No untoward incident was reported anywhere in the Valley during the functions held in all districts in the region. High-tech drones and CCTV were used to monitor the overall situation during the functions across Kashmir.The Srinagar administration had set up large screens along with speakers at several places including Jehangir Chowk and MA Road to telecast live speech of the Prime Minister from New Delhi.A senior police officer told that adequate security arrangements were put in place across Srinagar, highways, major junctions, and hot spots to thwart any untoward incident.Most government buildings, including educational institutions, hoisted the tricolor and sang the national anthem.After reviewing the situation in Valley, this year police had decided not to snap mobile and internet services on 15th August.Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said there is neither internet shutdown nor restrictions.He said counter-drone technology has been deployed at all sensitive places in the region, especially in the main city center Lal Chowk.(CNS)
