Army organises ‘Sher-e-Kashmir’ bodybuilding competition in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Sher-e-Kashmir Bodybuilding Competition was conducted as a part of Operation Sadhbhavana by the 20 RR (DOGRA) under the aegis of HQ 31 Sub Area at APS, BB Cantt here.

The event was the final round of many preliminary competitions that were held across the Kashmir valley. The preliminary competitions were organised by various sectors at 9 different locations across North & South Kashmir, in which more than 200 youth participated.

The best 50 bodybuilders were called upon for the final competition Sher-e-Kashmir Bodybuilding Competition held in Srinagar.

“We have organized it in two phases, under the first phase, small competitions were held in all Kashmir districts and today in Srinagar another phase of it was held,” the organizers of the event said.

They said that in eight weight categories, more than 50 athletes participated in the final event.

They said that the event was aimed at trying to show to the youngsters how they can use their energies in more productive ways.

“We have been organizing such events on and off but the Body Building was held for the first time,” they said.

Tanveer Banday a participant from Handwara said that it is good imitative for trying to divert the attention of the youth towards productive ways.

Another participant Imran Bhat from Handwara who had secured 2nd position in the Mr Handwara competition said that it is a good initiative and that the youth must shun the ways of destruction such as indulging in drug abuse and should rather focus on good activities.
