Army sponsored training on Dairy Farming concludes at SKUAST-Jammu

JAMMU: A fifteen days training programme on “Scientific Interventions to Improve Productivity of Dairy Animals” sponsored by Tiger Division of Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavna) today concludes here at Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, R.S. Pura campus.

The training, held under the leadership of Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, Prof. J. P. Sharma, was organized to train the unemployed rural youth and ex-service men of army so that they could start their own enterprises in a scientific manner with more productivity and thereby more profitability. Fifteen participants from different villages of Jammu district successfully completed the training programme and received participation certificates.

At the valedictory function, Prof. M.S. Bhadwal, Dean, FVSc&AH and Chief Guest of the function, congratulated all the trainees for their interest and continuous availability during the programme. He also congratulated the course coordinators and other supporting staffs for successful completion of training programme. He briefed about the different topics covered during the training and emphasized on adoption of learnt techniques by the participants during the training for starting their enterprises as a profitable venture.

Prof. Bhadwal was of the view that Dairy animals are an important source of income, food, and nutritional security, and improvements in the productivity of dairy animals substantially improve the well-being of smallholder dairy farmers.

On this occasion, a training manual on the said programme was also released by the guests which comprised of lectures and practical demonstrations covered by the different resource persons.

Col. Mohammad Ali, CO, 118 Medium Regiment, Tiger Division, Jammu and Guest of Honor on the occasion, stated that there is dire need of such programmes which aims on updating the farmers’ knowledge to boost up dairy farming community and uplift their socio-economic status.

Earlier, Prof. Kamal Sarma, Head of the Division of VAHEE cum convenor welcomed the guests and briefed about the successful completion of the programme. He informed that the during the training 37 lectures & demonstrations were delivered by experts of Faculty of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry.

The Participants visited University Headquarter at Chatha for understanding the concept of Integrated Farming System model and Hydroponics for round the year fodder production.

They also visited Dairy Farm at Bega village (owned by Satpal Chaudhary) for getting field level exposures. They underwent hands-on-trainings for preparation of different value added milk products, vermin-compost making demonstration at dairy farm of the University. Trainees were also given demonstration on complete feed block, urea molasses mineral block etc. Topics covered were on all aspects of scientific dairy farming. Five trainees shared their views on significance of such vivid training programme.

Dr. Pranav Kumar, Assistant Professor, Division of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension Education cum Course coordinator conducted the proceedings of the valedictory function and presented vote of thanks. 

He thanked Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu for continuous motivation and support, Dean FVSc&AH for consistent guidance and monitoring, resource persons for delivering the quality lectures & demonstrations, Tiger Division of Indian Army for sponsorship and trainees for making this training programme a grand success.
