Jammu, August 30 : The Bharatiya Janata Party closed down its J&K headquarters at Jammu’s Trikuta Nagar for 10 days after some of its senior leaders tested positive for coronavirus.

“Following COVID-19 protocol we have decided to close our headquarters for 10 days,” BJP’s media in-charge Pardeep said, adding that all political activities have been suspended for a time.

The development comes after two general secretaries of the party, Ashok Koul and Vivodh Gupta, tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday, days after BJP Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma.

Sharma, his wife and his personal assistant had tested positive three days ago.

Both Koul and Gupta had recently attended some meetings that BJP’s national general secretary Ram Madhav had held in Kashmir during his two-day visit to the Valley.

“BJP general secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul and BJP general seceratry J& K and Kashmir affairs incharge Vibod Gupta tested positive minutes before their meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The two leaders had visited Kashmir a few days ago and held meetings with several delegations. I request all those who came in contact with these two leaders to get tested and to quarantine themselves,” BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur said in a brief statement.

Meanwhile, BJP Mahila Morcha president Sangeeta Dogra, who had been to Reasi district recently, also tested positive.
