Jammu, 21-Jan;The Director Fisheries, J&K, Mohammad Farooq Dar, JKAS conducted an extensive tour of District Samba and Kathua to monitor the progress of various developmental schemes being implemented in the Fisheries sector. The Biofloc/Carps units established by the farmers in District Samba were inspected by the Director during the tour. He directed the officers to identify potential areas in their districts to prioritise setting up of fisheries units in private sector for better growth of the sector and welfare of those engaged in the trade. Emphasis was laid by the Director on generating awareness among the general masses particularly the SC/ST community to start fisheries related business. The director impressed upon the concerned District Officers to utilise different media channels to advertise about the PMMSY and various other beneficiary oriented schemes of the department. The Chief Project Officer, National Fish Seed Farm Kathua apprised the Director that 24.815 lac quality fish seed of Indian Major Carps and Exotic carps have been produced at the farm out of which about 24.84 lac have been supplied to various farmers for rearing in their fish culture units and also to various Districts for stocking in the community ponds/water bodies. During the inspection of the Chinese hatchery at National Fish Seed Farm, Kathua the Director Fisheries observed that seepage in the water supply pipe line and some components of the hatchery.
