Directorate of AYUSH J&K signs MoU for Anti-Cancer Ayurvedic formulation

JAMMU, April 13: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Directorate of AYUSH J&K, National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) Jaipur, Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research & Education in Cancer (ACTREC) Tata Memorial Centre Navi Mumbai and AIMIL Pharmaceuticals India Limited was signed at National Institute of Ayurveda (Deemed to be University) for Development of Anti-Cancer Ayurvedic Formulation (V2S2).Prof Sanjeev Sharma, Vice-Chancellor NIA (DU) Jaipur, Dr Anil Kumar Sharma (vice-president, AIMIL Pharmaceuticals India Limited) along with other dignitaries attended on physical mode while as Dr Jyoti Kode Scientist B ACTREC and Dr Mohan Singh (Director AYUSH, J&K) attended the ceremony on virtual mode.This prestigious research project for cancer treatment through Ayurveda was initiated by Dr Sandeep Charak under the guidance of Director AYUSH J&K/Assistant Director, Dr Rakesh Kumar Raina for developing coded formulation as safer and effective treatment in oncological conditions. Dr Sandeep Charak from Directorate of AYUSH J&K and Dr Jyoti Kode from ACTREC have been designated as Principal/Co-Investigators of the project. The AIMIL Pharmaceuticals India Limited is sponsoring about Rs 50 lakh for this novel research on Anti-Cancer Ayurvedic formulation.The anti-cancer activity of herbal extract V2S2 has been studied and compared with Adriamycin, which is an established chemotherapeutic drug. The experimental procedure was performed as per National Cancer Institute (NCI) guidelines at ACTREC, Tata Memorial Cancer Centre, Mumbai. The Ayurvedic drug code named V2S2 is a Hydro-Alcoholic extract from 6 Ayurvedic herbomix. The significant anti-cancer activity of V2S2 was initially found at the lab scale which has been published in different national and international journals of repute.Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mohan Singh informed that this milestone has been made possible today by the active support and guidance of Bhupinder Kumar, Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department. He hoped that this project will be turning point in cancer treatment through Ayurveda and will encourage more researches in AYUSH sector in J&K.
