DLMC reviews Nutrition Procurement, calls for strengthened monitoring of AWCs in Ganderbal

GANDERBAL, APRIL 21: In order to review the procurement of nutrition items for Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) and assess the overall implementation of services under the Poshan initiative in the district, a meeting of the District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC) was today convened under the chairmanship of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal, Syed Faheem Bihaqi.

The meeting held detailed deliberations on improving monitoring mechanisms, ensuring quality control, and enhancing inter-departmental coordination for effective service delivery at the grassroots level.

During the meeting, the chair directed all concerned departments to strengthen monitoring of AWCs across the district to ensure better outcomes. The Food Safety Officer was instructed to increase the collection and analysis of supplementary nutrition samples on a quarterly basis, particularly at the time of procurement, to maintain quality standards.

Jal Shakti Department was asked to undertake 300 drinking water quality tests within the next 15 days to ensure safe water supply at Anganwadi Centres.

The Health Department was directed to provide block-wise data on anaemic women and girls to enable focused interventions, while the Education Department was advised to work in close coordination with ICDS, especially in ensuring smooth transition and admission of children from AWCs to schools.

The committee also took note of valuable feedback received from mothers of children attending AWCs. The District Legal Services Authority was requested to organize awareness camps on issues related to child rights and domestic violence to further strengthen community outreach.

The ADC emphasized the need for sustained coordination among departments and stressed that collective efforts are essential to improve nutritional indicators and ensure that the benefits of welfare schemes effectively reach the intended beneficiaries.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Programme Officer ICDS, all members of the committee including representative of the District Legal Services Authority, nominated members, besides other concerned officers.
