Srinagar: Taking a step forward to improve the physical and mental health of youngsters, Indian Army on Sunday organised a “Run for fun” at Ajas area of Northern Kashmir’s Bandipore.
The aim of the event was to encourage and inspire people of all ages to improve their health through running and different exercise, especially in the times of the prevailing pandemic.
A senior official said, “With such events in place, it ignites the feeling of unity, nationalism and patriotism among the youngsters.”
The event was flagged off by the Ajas company commander. Indian Army conducted the run into two categories — youngsters over the age of 14 years and under 14 years including boys and girls.
Early morning, these teenagers gathered after which run commenced from Champazpura mausoleum and culminated at higher secondary school Ajas.
Over 200 youngsters participated with full enthusiasm. An army officer said, “ It was heartwarming to see the response of these youngsters, especially girls who came out in large numbers to participate. This clearly shows how strongly people are committed to nation-building.”
The event was witnessed by hundreds of locals along with a commanding officer of 13 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion and several other officials from the district administration. Prizes were distributed among the participants of each category.
The locals at the event were urged to follow principles of brotherhood and communal harmony.
