Secretary HED inspects GDCs at Nagrota, Purmandal, Bishnah

JAMMU: Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Talat Parvez Rohella today inspected Government Degree Colleges at Nagrota, Purmandal and Bishnah and reviewed their functioning and took stock of problems, issues, challenges being faced by these institutions.

At Nagrota, he inspected various sites identified for construction of the college campus. After inspecting two to three sites at Narayna and Radok-Doak area, he said that the final decision will be taken after proper examination of land. He also inspected the sites identified for the construction of Government Degree Colleges at Purmandal and Bishnah. He said that opening of new colleges is big initiative taken by the government to provide higher education to the students at their doorsteps.

The Principals of the Colleges apprised the Commissioner Secretary about the functioning of their respective institutions, existing infrastructure, total strength of students, the courses being run besides activities and programs being conducted at the institute. They also briefed him about the institutional plan for the development of college and facilities to be provided to students.

The Commissioner Secretary also interacted with the faculty of GDC Nagrota, GDC Purmandal and GDC Bishnah who apprised him of the difficulties being faced by them. Rohella assured the faculty members that their genuine issues will be redressed in phased manner. He had a detailed interaction with the staff to know about the requirement of infrastructure, most preferred courses and other issues related to the benefit of student community and the colleges. He stressed the need to introduce the basic certificate courses for all students, remedial and extra tutorials for weak students, honing the writing and reading skill of the students and establishing the academia-industry linkages.

He said that the Colleges should be able to disseminate and advance the knowledge of students by providing opportunities in research programs taken up by the faculty in such branches of learning as it may deem relevant and feasible from time to time.
