August 24: Police in a recent action against drug dealings in Awantipora have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
Officers at a checkpoint established at village Kawani-Awantipora intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03C-3212 with one person on board. He has been identified as Jahangir Ahmad Dar resident of Frisal Kulgam. During search officers were able to recover 02Kgs of poppy straw (grinded fukki) from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station Awantipora, where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, case FIR No. 116/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police has resolved to deal robustly with drug peddlers.
