Handwara Police arrests 03 drug peddlers; contraband substance recovered

May 31:Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Handwara Police have arrested 03 drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party from Police Station Vilgam at a checkpoint established at Dohama crossing intercepted a tractor bearing registration number JK09A-8316 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Javid Ahmad Sheik, Danish Ahmad Sheik both sons Mohd Akbar Sheik resident of Dohama Vilgam. During checking, officers were able to recover 650gms poppy straw, 30gms Charas and cash amount of Rs.8970/- from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Similarly, another police party from Police Station Vilagam at a checkpoint established at Manzgam intercepted a person identified as Munner Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Ahmad Khan resident of Manzgam. During search, officers were able to recover 30gms Charas and cash amount of Rs. 3800/- from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases vide FIR numbers 46/2021 and 47/2021 under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Vilgam and investigation into the matters have been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
