My Youth My Pride: Hockey & Cricket matches played in Srinagar

Gani Memorial Stadium hosts night CricketSRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 05: J&K Sports Council’s special initiative ‘My Youth My Pride’ events were today conducted in many playfields and indoor complexes across kashmir.Some of the events were organized by J&K Sports Council in association with the respective recognized associations or educational institutes by way of either providing logistics.The Guru Hargobind Sahib Hockey Tournament-2022 hockey event being played in Gindun Sports Complex, Srinagar entered its 2nd day. The tournament is scheduled to be played over eight days.On day one of the championship, two matches were played. Similarly, two matches were played today also. The first match was played between Rangreth XI and Kupwara XI in which the former trounced the latter by 5 goals to nil. The Rangreth XI maintained possession of the ball right from the word go and kept attacking the defense line of opponents till they succeeded in sending five shots into the net.In the second encounter of the day, Jammu XI was playing against the Pulwama XI. Though both teams were playing quality hockey yet were unable to penetrate the goal line till the report was filed.Meanwhile, two interuniversity football matches were played in TRC Football Astro Turf in which the first match of the day was played between Government Degree College Beerwah and IITM Hyderpora, GDC Beerwah scored 3 goals to 1 to claim the match. In the second match played between SSM-II and Government Degree College Sopore, the former played some remarkable football and scored 2 goals in reply to the latter’s solitary goal.  Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull while speaking on the occasion said that the administration is keenly focusing on tapping the sports talent as during the past couple of years J&K Sports has been touching new heights and players are not only competing but giving their best. The work behind the scenes by way of handholding and providing adequate infrastructure is fetching dividends. Playfields and cricket grounds remained active all through the day and a night match is scheduled to be played in flood-lit Gani Memorial Stadium in Srinagar’s Shehri-Khass.
