Security Measures Heightened Across Kashmir Valley

Srinagar, Aug 14 : Stringent and technical security measures are in place across Kashmir Valley ahead of August 15, marking India’s freedom anniversary from British rule 75 years ago.

Police and paramilitary men were seen stopping and searching vehicles at several places while people were queued up and subjected to frisking.

Scooter riders and private vehicles were also randomly stopped and checked for any subversive element to ensure that the ensuing official functions on Sunday pass off peacefully and incident-free, officials said.  
Apart from frisking people thoroughly, the men in uniform were also seen checking I-cards of some people.

Apart from usual security measures, authorities have stepped up “technical surveillance” including through drones in Srinagar, particularly Lal Chowk and Anchar area in Soura.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is schedule to preside over the main function at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here. Like the past, the venue has been sealed off.

Earlier this week police also carried test of drones at a park here and an officer told media persons that camera fitted device while keep vigil on any suspected person within two kilometers radius
He said more than one dozen drones have been pressed into service for the aerial surveillance of MA Road, Residency road, Regal Chowk, Maisama and lal Chowk. 

A police official told that foolproof security arrangements have been made for incident free and successful Independence Day celebrations.

 “Police and other Security forces have been put on high alert across Kashmir valley. Even on normal days they are in state of alertness to foil any attempts by inimical elements to create disturbance. But, during function like the one ensuing on Sunday extra precautions are made.”

There are already checkpoints at various places and vehicles are being checked while passengers are being frisked for the overall safety, he said. 

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar told reporters on Friday that security has been increased everywhere in view of the August 15 function. “People are being searched and frisked. Surveillance is done through drones. We are doing technical surveillance,” he had said, adding, “There will be incident-free functions on August 15.” (GNS)
