Srinagar Police arrests three drug peddlers and two gamblers

Contraband substances and stake money seized

September 22: Continuing its drive against social crimes in Srinagar, Police have arrested three drug peddlers and two gamblers. Contraband substance, stake money and playing cards have been recovered from their possession.

Officers at a checkpoint established at near Shamshan Bhoomi Gate intercepted three suspicious persons identified as Hilal Ahmad Sheikh resident of Palpora Pamposh Colony, Mohammad Rafeeq Kalo resident of Noorbagh & Arshid Ahmad Mir resident of Rainawari. During checking, officers were able to recover contraband substance from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Karan Nagar where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 58/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Karan Nagar and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police party from PS Khanyar raided a gambling site at Brarinambal Babademb following an input about gambling activities and apprehended two gamblers. They have been identified as Feroz Ahmad Renzu resident of Tabardar Mohalla Khanyar and Mohd Maqbool Bhat resident of Sheeshgari Mohalla Khanyar.

Officers have seized playing cards and stake money of ₹9,080/- from the gamblers. They have been arrested and shifted to PS Khanyar where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 72/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Khanyar and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding social crimes in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in criminal activities will be dealt as per law.
