EC Ghulam Mehdi reviews Handicraft and Handloom projects under Capex Budget 2020-21

Leh, 13 Nov:- The Executive Councillor for Handicraft and Handloom Ghulam Mehdi today convened a meeting of A.D Handicraft/Superintendent Handloom Leh Rinchen Namgyal in his office chamber and reviewed the achievements, ongoing projects and future plans of Handicraft and Handloom dept, Leh. He also reviewed the status and progress of works under Capex Budget 2020-21.

A.D Handicraft/Superintendent Handloom Leh Rinchen Namgyal informed EC Mehdi that till data the department of Handicraft and Handloom have trained about 7000 local artisans in weaving, tailoring, woodcarving, painting and in other fields and at present about 2000 artisans are in position to earn their livelihood.

EC Mehdi said that the Handicraft and Handloom sector plays a significant role in generating employment opportunities in a society and uplifting the economy of a region benefiting poor local artisans. Mehdi directed A.D Handicraft Leh to formulate a comprehensive project for Leh district under Handicraft and Handloom.

EC Mehdi was apprised that as compare to last year Capex Budget of ₹ 19.16 lacs, this year capex budget approved ₹ 60 lacs for Handloom while as compare to last year capex budget of ₹ 19.16 lacs, this year capex budget approved ₹ 1.5 crore for Handicraft sector which is 10 times more than the last year budget.
