Srinagar-Leh highway thrown open for LMV’s

Sonamarg , 25-Mar: The 434-km Srinagar-Leh national highway, the only road connecting the Kashmir Valley with the frontier region of Ladakh, was officially thrown open today for all light motor vehicles after remaining closed for 80 days. The highway was closed for vehicular traffic in January this year after the high-altitude areas of Kashmir, including Sonamarg, Zojila Pass, Minimarg, Zero Point, and other parts received heavy snowfall.The Beacon Official said that the decision about the movement of the heavy vehicles on the highway will be taken by civil and Police administration in coming days. Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Krittika Jyotsna along with SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borker flagged off the first convoy of light motor vehicles at Sonamarg towards Kargil.SDPO Kangan Yasir Qadri,Dysp Traffic Ganderbal,ARTO Ganderbal Basharat Mehmood and other officials were also present . The cut off time for vehicles from the Kashmir side shall remain 6 am at Sonmarg, Ganderbal side and 8:30 am from Kargil Side at Minimarg.(CNS)
