Sunny Weather In Kashmir After Days Of Winter Like Conditions

SRINAGAR, Apr 23: Amid below normal temperature and days of winter like weather conditions bright sun appeared with mostly clear sky on Sunday much to the respite of the people in Kashmir valley.The Meteorological Department predicts mainly dry weather with possibility of rain or snow over higher reaches at a few places over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.The minimum and maximum temperature all across the Kashmir valley witnessed a considerable drop during the past few days forcing people and tourists to take measures and wear warm clothes.The cold weather conditions also prevented most of the people, including children, from celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr by visiting relatives and gardens on the first day of the festival on Saturday. However, children attired in colorful dresses in large numbers were seen moving towards the Mughal gardens on the bank of Dal Lake in Srinagar amid pleasant weather conditions to celebrate the festival today.Srinagar recorded a low of 3.4 degree Celsius which was 5.5 degree Celsius below normal of 8.9 degree Celsius for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.The day temperature in Srinagar was recorded 8.1 degree Celsius below normal of 22.3 degree Celsius on Sunday.Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a low of 2.2 degree Celsius against the 3.9 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 5.3 degrees below normal for the gateway of Kashmir.Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam experienced a low of minus 1.2 degree Celsius against minus 1.7 the previous night and it was 5.7 degree below normal for the valley of shepherds in south Kashmir on Sunday.Kupwara recorded a low of 2.2 degree Celsius against 4.2 degree Celsius a day ago and it was 5.4 degree Celsius below normal for the frontier Kashmir district.Kokernag recorded a low of 2.2 degree Celsius against 1.6 degree Celsius the previous night and it was 5.4 degree Celsius below normal for the picnic spot of south Kashmir.Gulmarg had a low of minus 1.5 degree Celsius against minus 1.0 degree Celsius a day ago and it was below 4.8 degree Celsius for the famous ski resort in north Kashmir on Sunday, the MeT office said.
