Various issues related to development of Kargil discussed during meeting

KARGIL SEPTEMBER 30, 2020: Administrative Secretary UT Ladakh Ravinder Kumar today called on the Executive Council of LAHDC Kargil at Council Secretariat Kurbathang and discussed various issues pertaining to the development of the district.

Executive Councillor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs Er Phunsog Tashi, Executive Councillor for Health and ITI Muhammad Ali Chandan, Executive Councillor for Animal/Sheep Husbandry and Cooperatives Aga Syed Mujtaba Mosavi, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary, Director Animal and Sheep Husbandry Ladakh Dr Muhammad Raza Abbassi, Chief Engineer PDD Ladakh Ghulam Ahmad Mir besides other concerned officers attended the meeting.

Members of the Executive Council of LAHDC Kargil welcomed the Administrative Secretary on his maiden visit to Kargil and expressed optimism that he will work with immense zeal and enthusiasm towards the development of the district.

During the course of the meeting several issues pertaining to the district with particular reference to Power, Animal and Sheep Husbandry and allied sectors, Youth Services and Sports, Cooperatives, ITI, Polytechnic besides other sectors came up for discussion.

Responding to the issues related to the Power Sector like the purchase of new DG sets and spares for the existing sets, additional power requirements in the district during winter months and stocking of HSD, the Secretary informed that with the Power Purchase Committee already framed, all purchases will be made this month further adding that 35 MW power has been demanded by the UT Administration besides Rs 9.50 crores have been demanded for purchase of HSD.

With regard to the issues related to KREDA like pending salaries of the employees and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the small hydel projects, the Secretary assured that the salary issue will be sorted out by way of onetime payment from Grant in Aid while as the PPA issue will be looked into.

The Secretary informed that to provide the youth with better opportunities of career and employment related information, the Employment Department will be made more vibrant by taking steps like opening of one stop center like career counselling cells specialising in dissemination of varied and timely information related to job advertisements, competitive exams and other related aspects.

Responding to the demand of the Executive Council members, the Secretary directed the Chief Engineer PDD Ladakh to carry out the repairs of DG stations besides also ensuring the provision of standby sets so as to ensure timely and hassle free arrangements of winter power supply in far off pockets of the district. He also instructed the officers of PDD to prepare detailed proposals for replacement of wooden poles.

The Secretary assured the Executive Council members that various issues including the establishment of Stock Assistants Training Institute, enhancement of veterinary centres, enhancement of seat capacity for different trades at ITI Kargil, engagement of instructors on rotation basis and other related issues will be given due consideration and appropriate measures would be taken in a phased manner.

Taking stock of the pace of progress on the construction of International standard Ice Hockey Rink at Kurbathang which came up for discussion during the meeting, the Secretary asked the officers of R&B to get the structure design properly checked by the Ice Hockey Association of India. He also stressed officers concerned to accelerate the pace of work on the project so as to ensure its completion within the stipulated timeline.

Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed the setting up of solar-wind hybrid renewable energy plants in the district, opening up of State of the Art skill centres through NHPC and PGCIL at ITI Kargil under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), identification of suitable land for construction of Sports Youth Hostel in the district for which Rs 3.50 crores have already been released under SDP and several other important projects in different sectors.
