Civil society Safapora demand restoration of Lar canal water supply

    Ganderbal,25-Apr; Angry over breach of Lar irrigation canal, which caters around thousands of kanal as of agricultural land in Safapora and other adjacent villages in Central Kashmir Ganderbal district, the Civil society members of Safapora Ganderbal blame the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) department for the doing nothing despite assurances and seek intervention of the higher authorities for immediate steps to plug the breach of the canal for smooth farming activities in the area.The members expressed their anger against irrigation and Flood Control department which they said blocked Lar canal at National fish seed farm Mansbal irrigating over thousands Kanals of land used by the farmers for agricultural activities.They said despite directions repeated pleas to Xen,AE I&Fc Ganderbal to restore water supply to farms, I&FC department does not wake up from deep slumber.The Civil society members said that paddy cultivation is main source of income for all inhabitants but are upset over the way the authorities have deliberately left this canal unrepaired during this season of rice saplings.“People have been compelled and constrained to come out on streets with their paddy seedlings to protest against department for failing to plugging the breach and restore the water supply in the canal”, they added.They also threatened to protest in front of civil secretariat tomorrow if their demands are not met. “If the concerned authorities fail to deliver this time, we will block the roads in Safapora and protest at civil secretariat Srinagar,” they warned.(CNS)
