Financial irregularity worth hundreds of crores of rupees in PHE Pulwama People Demand probe into irregularities

    Pulwama , 14-Dec; In brazen financial irregularity, the officers of PHE division Pulwama are learnt to have withdrawn crores of rupees from the public exchequer.The four major schemes to provide drinking water supply to the people in Pulwama for which government has had to bear the cost of crores of rupees have proven to be a failure. Most of the schemes set up by the engineers of the department in the district have failed, due to which people are not only using dirty water, but also in some areas, the use of such water has spread diseases, on which the administration works blindly.According to the sources, the scheme of Rs. 50 million established in Baba Gund of Pulwama has already failed and at present drinking water is being provided to the people without filtration. The established water supply scheme to Athora and adjoining areas has also failed. Last year alone the department had taken out a bill of lakhs of rupees from the state exchequer for this tube well but that too proved to be a failure.Apart from MitriGam ,charso, Gusoo areas of Pulwama, some schemes under sub-division Tahab and Newa have also failed and due to the failure of these schemes people are facing great difficulties.While taking cognize of the report, one of the senior officials from DC office Pulwama said that matter will be discussed with higher authorities.Revealing the frauds, sources further said that contrary to the funds allocated for providing door-to-door water supply to the people under government schemes in different areas of Pulwama, the engineers also committed scams in pipes and other equipments. By doing so, they have illegally demonstrated collusion with the contractors who are carrying out these works.Meanwhile, civil society and other social organizations of Pulwama have condemned the rigging in PHE Division Pulwama and demanded the government to expose the frauds committed by the employees, engineers and contractors in the district.“Those involved in such criminal activities must be booked under law at an earliest a instead of providing facilities to the people these officials are looting the public exchequer”, they alleged.(CNS)
