GDC Basohli organises online interactive session

    KATHUA: To commemorate “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the NSS unit of GDC Basohli in collaboration with J&K Animal Husbandry Basohli and Govt. Horticulture Deptt. Basohli organized an interactive session on the occasion of “World Youth Skill Day” on the theme: “Imparting Skill Values among youth: A Step Towards Employability”.Dr. Shiv Kumar, NSS Programme Officer briefed the function and talked about the significance and history of the day.The inaugural address was presented by Principal of the college, Dr. Nidhi Kotwal in which she highlighted the impacts of Covid-19 on the health and employment sector. She also stressed on the role of skill and vocational courses in the creation of employability.The first session was taken up by, Dr. Rayees Ahmed Malik, veterinary Asstt. Surgeon, Govt. Animal Husbandry Dept. Basohli. He elaborated on various dairy subsidized schemes and policies that can generate job opportunities among youth and also motivated the students to take maximum benefit from these schemes.Sanjeev Singh Andotra, Horticulture Development Officer, Govt. Horticulture Department Basohli, resource person for the second session, discussed in detail the schemes offered by horticulture department and talked about the establishment of subsidized orchards of Mangos, Litchi, Citrus fruits etc. and nurseries too.In the concluding session, college students namely Sunita Sharma, Kanika Thakur and Nandani, shared the skills, which they acquired during the pandemic time. In particular, Kanika pointed out that importance of English language as a skill, which she acquired during this pandemic time.The proceeding of the event was attended by the UG students of the college and all the faculty members Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, Dr. R.K. Manhas, Prof. Pawan Kumar, Dr. Kehar Singh, Dr. Gotam Singh, Prof. Suresh Barwal, Dr. Shiv Kumar, Prof. Brham Dutt, Dr. Shiv Mangal Singh, Dr. Jeevan Kashyap, Sandeep Kumar and Sandeep Sharma.In her concluding remarks, the principal appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and students for utilizing the free time in acquiring new skills.A vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Shiv Kumar.
