Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad received Padma Bhushan Awards by President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday in the field of Public Affairs, as reported by news agency.Meanwhile, daughters of former CDS General Bipin Rawat, Kritika and Tarini received his Padma Vibhushan award (posthumous) from President Kovind.The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, conferred the Padma Awards at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I which was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today. The Padma Awards are conferred in three categories and are given in various disciplines or fields of activities such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, among others. The three categories in which the Padma Awards are conferred are: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. This year, the President conferred two Padma Vibhushan, eight Padma Bhushan, and 54 Padma Shri Awards at the ceremony. Some of the prominent awardees included Radheshyam Khemka and General Bipin Rawat, who were conferred the Padma Vibhushan posthumously. Khemka was a journalist and for 38 years, he was the editor of Kalyan published by Gita Press, which is the world’s largest publisher of Hindu religious texts.Ghulam Nabi Azad, N. Chandrasekharan, Devendra Jhajharia, Rashid Khan, Rajiv Mehrishi, Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla and Sachchidanand Swami were awarded the Padma Bhushan. Gurmeet Bawa, who was an Indian Punjabi folk singer, was awarded the Padma Bhushan posthumously. The Civil Investiture Ceremony II is scheduled to be held on March 28, according to a statement issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service. The Padma Bhushan is awarded for distinguished service of high order and the Padma Shri is conferred for distinguished service in any field. Every year, the awards are announced on January 26, on the occasion of Republic Day. The President of India confers the awards at ceremonial functions held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan. This year, a total of 128 Padma Awards are being conferred. The Awards include two duo cases. A duo case is one in which the Award is counted as one. The list of awardees comprises four Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri Awards. As many as 34 awardees are women. The list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 13 posthumous awardees.Share This News
