India Covid-19 cases skyrocket to highest ever one-day tally of 4,14,188; 3,915 more die in past 24 hours

    India on Friday reported the highest-ever single-day spike in coronavirus cases after a whopping 4,14,188 people tested positive for the Covid-19 infection in the past 24 hours.Thursday’s tally pushed the country’s overall caseload to 2,14,91,598, while there are 36,45,164 active cases in India right now.The death toll also rose by 3,915, taking the total fatalities to 2,34,083.As many as 3,31,507 patients were discharged from hospitals and Covid care centres, taking the overall recoveries to 1,76,12,351, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.A total of 16,49,73,058 people have so far been vaccinated across India.The active cases comprise of 16.96 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid recovery rate has slumped to 81.95 per cent.The case fatality rate has been recorded at 1.09 per cent, the Health Ministry data stated.India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, the 30 lakh mark on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.It crossed the 60 lakh mark on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and the 1-crore mark on December 19.The country reached the grim milestone of 2 crore cases on May 4.According to the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), 29,86,01,699 samples have been tested up to May 6, with 18,26,490 samples being tested on Thursday alone.India has clocked an hourly death rate of 150 over the past 10 days, and a collective death toll of 36,110 in this period, the highest Covid-related death toll reported in any country over a span of 10 days since the deadly outbreak last year.
