Jal Sheeri residents protest water scarcity

    Baramulla,13-Apr; The residents of Jal sheeri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district staged a demonstration against the Public Health Engineering department accusing officials of not paying concern towards the prevailing water crisis.Irate residents of Noor Mohalla Jal Sheeri staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here today. They raised slogans against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department and alleged that the authorities have failed to solve their problems, forcing them to come on roads. “The Jal Shakti department has failed to install pipelines with the result there has been no supply of drinking water for the last several years”,they alleged.They accused the officers of the department of failing to address their grievance as neither the fault was repaired, nor the alternative arrangement was made for supply of drinking water despite being informed a dozen times. “Our area has been facing water scarcity for the past several years. We are forced to drink contaminated water and it has affected our health badly,” said a protesting woman.Urging the administration to address the issue on priority basis, the agitating protesters said that tap water scarcity is a major issue in the area which causes immense hardship to the local population.“It is painful that our village is without drinking water, which is discriminatory towards our village. We will continue our protest if our issue is not resolved,” they added.They said that the authorities need to act in time so that people of the area are not deprived of basic amenities like drinking water.“We appeal DC Baramulla to look into our genuine problem so that we can take a sign of relief,” they demanded.(CNS)
