Kulgam,06-Dec; Locals from Srundoo and adjacent areas of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district have demanded that Public Health Centre (PHC) located in Srundoo should not only be upgraded but also make it functional round the clock.Public Health Centre (PHC) at Srundoo was constructed few years ago as Allopathic centre but was later upgraded to Public health centre in 2014.“Despite getting upgraded again in 2019 as New PHC,it’s not fulfilling the needs of the population in and around the area as it lacks basic infrastructure and staff,” locals told Although it was upgraded with an aim to convert it as a new PHC but till now it has been functioning as a PHC which caters the patients from morning 10 to 5 in the evening. And now the locals are demanding that it should be upgraded into a full-fledged hospital and should be made functional 24×7 so that it can cater the needs of the needy.“In 2019, one lady doctor was posted here for two working days and now she too has been transferred somewhere else’’, locals alleged.Aijaz Ahmad a resident of Srundoo said, “Whenever there is a medical emergency patients need to be shifted either to other hospitals which are far from our area. And if PHC is upgraded it will not only cater the medical emergencies of locals from Srundoo but also other areas in the vicinity of the district etc.”He also said that the patient inflow will be reduced in other hospitals of the district.Another local Hussain said that they wish that PHC should be made functional round the clock so that in case there is a medical emergency during night a needy patient can be given medical aid promptly without any delay.Locals sought intervention of authorities particularly Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for addressing the local pending issue of locals at an earliest.(CNS)
