New Delhi : PM Narendra Modi will meet state chief ministers over the next two days to find ways to reverse two district curves – of rising novel coronavirus cases and mounting economic losses – that have emerged post-Unlock 1.0, which was declared on May 30.

During the last fortnight, Unlock 1.0 has witnessed a quick rise in Covid-19 cases to over 3 lakh and sluggish economic revival despite a Rs 21 lakh crore government package.

For the meeting, the states and Union territories have been divided into two groups on the basis of the number of cases reported, future projection and geographical relevance. The CMs of the less-affected states will meet the prime minister on Tuesday, while the leaders of the worst-affected states will hold the discussion on Wednesday.

The indication from the prime minister is that states with low active count cases with a positive projection ahead need a different level of discussion and strategising comparedto the states which have reported high numbers with worrisome projections.

This would be PM Modi’s sixth meeting with the chief ministers ever since the Covid-19 pandemich it in the country. On June 16(Tuesday) the prime minister will interact with CMs and heads of 21 states and UTs. These include states and UTs with low numbers of confirmed cases and deaths like Punjab and Kerala, hill states Uttarakhand and Himachal,Northeastern states including Assam. These 21 states, till Monday, had recorded 19,144 total confirmed recorded cases and less than 150 dead.

On June 17(Wednesday), PM Narendra Modi will interact with CMs of 14 big states and UTJammu and Kashmir as these regions are battling with a high active caseload. The 14 states include Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, among others.
