2 militants killed in Kulgam encounter

Kulgam ,12-Apr; Two militants including a foreigner were killed and two policemen injured in an ongoing encounter in Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Monday evening,In a statement issued, Police spokesperson said that on Monday, based on a specific Input generated by Kulgam Police regarding movement of militants in a vehicle on Manzgam-Aharbal axis . On tip off a special Joint team of Kulgam Police & Army (09 & 34 RR) was constituted and at about 17:50 hours, a three-wheeler vehicle (Tempo) was spotted near Khur-Batpora moving in suspicious condition, was chased and challenged . However travelling militants in the vehicle, jumped out and resorted to indiscriminate firing towards the joint team of forces.“The fire of the militants was effectively retaliated. However, in the initial firefight, two of the Police Personnel got critically wounded and were evacuated amidst the heavy firing to 92 Base Hospital (BB Cant Srinagar) where their condition is stable now”,he added. The encounter which started at the twilight, lasted for the whole night and 02 militants identified as Jameel Pasha @ Usman Chachu affiliated with proscribed outfit JeM and was active from last 5 years (Pakistani) & Sameer Sofi son of Farooq Ahmad Sofi, resident of Amshipora, Shopian were neutralised. “As per Police records, the killed militant Jameel Pasha @ Usman Chachu was active since 05 years in Kulgam-Shopian belt and had a history of terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs, abduction of forces personnel, civilian atrocities, IED attacks, weapon looting . Besides, he was also instrumental in recruitment of gullible youth into terror folds. It is pertinent to mention that the killed militants were part of the group that escaped after a brief gunfight in Chaki Samad area of Kulgam on 09.04.2022”,he said. Meanwhile, Large cache of arms and ammunitions including 1 AK47 rifle, 1 Pistol, 1 Grenade catch 86P,1 BP Pouch, 1 Pistol Magazine, 3 AK47 Magazine, 5 Pistol rounds, 36 AK 47 rounds and a weapon oil bottle were rcovered.“All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes. Also vehicle used in commission of crime has been seized”,he said.In this connection, Case FIR No 09/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Manzgam and investigation has been initiated.(CNS)
