Jammu:Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said today that the development brought about by the Modi government in Jammu & Kashmir may not be seen by the opponents, but it is seen by the Voter and particularly in the last one year or so, the development activity had proceeded at an enhanced pace in spite of the intervening period of constraints due to COVID pandemic. In a Virtual interview to national TV Channel India Today, in the midst of District Development Council election campaign, Dr Jitendra Singh said, not only several new projects of national importance have been initiated in Jammu & Kashmir in the last few years but with the personal intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi several national projects which had been held up for many decades have also been revived. In this regard, he made a particular mention of the Shahpur-Kandi Irrigation Project which was stuck up for the last nearly four decades, as a result of which the entire water of India’s share from river Ravi was flowing into Pakistan, and added that when the project gets completed in next two years or so, it will benefit the border districts on both the sides of Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab. He also referred to the mega Hydroelectric Power Projects like Pakal Dul in Kishtwar, which was not only launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi but was also reviewed by him in the monthly PRAGATI meeting held on 25th of this month. The irony, Dr Jitendra Singh said , is that all the opposition leaders use the roads, bridges and tunnels constructed with Central funds in the last six years and yet deny that there is any development. He referred to Asia’s longest tunnel Chenani-Nashri, which was dedicated to public by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is the first such project in India to be named after Syama Prasad Mookerjee, and said that all the opposition leaders travelling from Jammu to Srinagar preferred to drive their vehicles through this tunnel in order to cut the journey time but once they cross out of the tunnel and some mediaperson asks them if they had seen any development, their instant reply is that they had not seen any development. Making a dig, he said, he often wonders whether these opposition politicians drive through this tunnel without seeing it or with their eyes shut.As regards Mehbooba Mufti’s allegation that the Roshin scam investigation is targeting a particular community, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, it is unbecoming of a former Chief Minister to make such a comment and said a crime or unlawful activity calls for the justice to take its course regardless of the religion or sect of the individual. If the PDP or National Conference leaders say that their workers are being named in higher numbers, it only amounts to indirect confession by them that all the misappropriations, embezzlements and land grabbings were done under the patronage of these two dynastic parties, he said.Dr. Jitendra Singh said, the coming together of the Gupkar parties is not a new phenomenon. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections also, they had put up joint candidates against the Bharatiya Janata Party though at that time they had not named it “Gupkar”. Like the 2019 elections, he said, their coming together will only further improve the prospects of the BJP performance.
