Srinagar, Feb 12: Caught in a tight spot with no possibility of shifting the patient due to heavy snowfall, a Medical Officer along with the paramedical staff ensured the delivery of a pregnant woman from the Kalas area, who was brought to the Public Health Centre (PHC) Keran in North Kashmir Kupwara District by taking the directions from a specialist through a WhatsApp call. The doctors said that the patient had a history of complicated delivery with eclampsia-seizures that occur during a woman’s pregnancy or shortly after giving birth-prolonged labour and episiotomy. They said that upon receiving the patient, she was induced and, after 6 hours, a healthy female baby was born, that too, in the absence of a specialist on the spot. The patient was brought to PHC Keran on Friday after developing labour pain while the available staff, keeping in view the patient’s history, were willing to shift her for better medical care under the supervision of a gynaecologist. But the case turned out to be a test of their skills under pressure instead.
