Reacting to reports that Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended for this season, former chief minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that the only reason the cricket league continued was to convey normalcy except that the whole world knows the situation in India is anything but normal.Mr Abdullah was reacting to reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has indefinitely postponed the IPL 2021 after several players and support staff tested positive for COVID-19.The vice president of National Conference (NC) said this (suspension of IPL) should have been done weeks ago but better late than never.“Finally. This should have been done weeks ago but better late than never. The only reason the IPL continued was the misplaced attempt to convey normalcy except that the whole world knows the situation in India is anything but normal,” Mr Abdullah wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.Kolkata Knight Riders’ spinner Varun Chakravarthy and seam bowler Sandeep Warrier tested positive for COVID-19 following which the match between Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday on Ahamedabad got rescheduled. Meanwhile, Amit Mishra and Wriddhiman Saha have also tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
