J&K: Terror associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba arrested in Kulgam, explosive substance recovered

Srinagar: The police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam along with 34 Rashtriya Rifles have arrested a terror associate of proscribed outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. The LeT associate was arrested during a search operation by the security forces in the Hattipura area of Kulgam in south Kashmir, an Army spokesman said.Kulgam Police said that incriminating materials and explosive substance were recovered from him and a case has been registered.

The Army spokesperson said a Chinese pistol, a Chinese hand grenade, two AK magazines with 28 rounds and a German compass were recovered from the accused’s possession.More details awaited in the incident.

On Friday, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had said that two out of the three youths killed in the encounter in Kashmir Valley, were working as “overground workers” for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist outfit. The trio killed in Parimpora was “radically inclined” and the claims by the family of one of them – Aijaz Maqbool Ganai – that he had gone to the university to fill up a form was found to be a lie on investigation, police saidTheir families claimed that the three youths had no links with militancy, and protested outside the police control room in Srinagar by saying that the deceased were a Class 11 student, a university student and a carpenter.

In December, two local terrorists of LeT had surrendered on appeal of families during an encounter between terrorists and police/security forces at Tongdounu in Kulgam. The Kashmir Zone Police had recovered incriminating materials including two pistols and ammunition from them. Vijay Kumar, IGP Kashmir, had informed that at least 12 terrorists surrendered during live encounters with security forces in 2020.
