Administrative Secretary UT Ladakh interacts with delegations of sports associations, RK employees, NYC volunteers

Takes stock of the functioning of power projects, Animal, Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries Centres

KARGIL SEPTEMBER 30, 2020: Administrative Secretary UT Ladakh Ravinder Kumar interacted with a number of sports associations of Kargil at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Biamathang here today.

Delegations of sports associations including the District Olympic Association Kargil (DOAK), Ladakh Olympic Association, Kargil Ice and Snow Sports Club, District Kargil Cricket Association and other associations projected their demands and issues which mainly included the formulation of Sports Policy for UT Ladakh, formation of Sports Council in UT Ladakh, construction of Youth Hostel in Kargil district, construction of Multipurpose Indoor Stadium and Archery Stadium, up gradation of existing Indoor Stadium, establishment of national level track and field, construction of all-weather Ice Hockey rink and ski slopes at Drass and Panikhar.

Other demands submitted by the associations included the establishment of infrastructure for Horse Polo, necessary additional facilities of roofing and board pavilion for existing Ice Hockey rinks at Biamathang and Bhimbat Drass, recruitment of players in Government jobs on the line of other states and UTs, construction of 400 meter long track ice skating rink at Bodh Kharboo, construction of ice hockey rinks at Wakha, Mulbekh and Shargole, conduct of LG Cup, and UT Ladakh ice hockey championship on rotational basis in Leh and Kargil districts and other related demands.

The Secretary gave a patient hearing to each and every delegation and assured them all demands will be looked into and appropriate measures would be taken to address the issues.

The Secretary said that the UT Administration is committed to develop quality infrastructure in Ladakh and all required measures are being taken to achieve this goal. He informed that a multipurpose indoor stadium is being established in Kargil district under SDP at a cost of Rs 30 crores besides a sports hostel with facility center is also being established at a cost of Rs 3.50 crores in the district.

Responding to the issue related to formulation of Sports Policy, the Secretary asked the members of DOAK to submit a draft in this regard.

The Secretary assured the delegations of NYK volunteers and Rehbar e Khel employees of appropriate measures who also called on him with the issues related to the enhancement of wages and regularization.

Meanwhile, the Secretary also visited the Training Center of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) at Bagh e Khomeini and interacted with the resident players where he was briefed about the overall functioning of the training center.

Later, during the day, the Secretary also visited the 44 MW NHPC Chutuk Hydel Project and 1.50 MW Small Hydel Project at Chillung Tai Suru and took stock of the overall functioning and the present status of power generation from these projects.

The Secretary was informed that at present 2 out of 4 units of the Chutuk Hydel Project are functioning with a total power generation of 17.53 MW.

As regards to the functioning of 1.50 MW Chillung Small Hydel Project, the engineers concerned informed the Secretary that presently the project is producing 500 KW of power which caters to the power requirements of around 1200 households in entire Suru area up to Tangole village.

During his visit to the Karakul Sheep Farm Khumbathang, the Director Animal and Sheep Husbandry Ladakh Dr Muhammad Raza Abbassi and concerned doctors while informing the Secretary about the Karakul sheep rams being reared at the farm said that a fresh stock of this breed is urgently required for the reparation of the genetic degradation it is faced with presently further adding that this is the only kind of Karakul Sheep breeding farm in India and needs up-gradation in terms of infrastructure and modernization at par with other research stations.

It was further given out that apart from raising mutton, this breed produces durable carpet wool that can be blended with other fine wool to manufacture a wonderful fabric.

The Secretary instructed the Project Director KREDA to submit a pre-feasibility report for establishment of solar water lifting plant at the farm for fodder production. He also asked the concerned officers to float fresh proposals to import Karakul sheep from Central Asia.
At Fish Farm Damsna and Cattle Breeding Farm Kurbathang the officers concerned apprised the Secretary about the status of fish and milk production, infrastructural requirements and other related aspects.

During his visit to the Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Centres, the Secretary while underlining the importance of these sectors in enhancing the economy of the farmers and other people associated with these sectors stressed officers to come up with innovative and workable inputs and proposals with a long term vision so as to ensure self-sufficiency coupled with surplus production.

The Secretary also underlined the concept of the integration of Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries centres with tourism by way of creation of tourism related facilities and unique selling points like the Yak, Karakul Sheep and Zanskari Horse to name a few at these centres which could prove instrumental in promotion of tourism in the district.
